Falls Viewed from Rainbow Bridge, Niagara Falls, Canada

This image is taken from a similar, but from the Rainbow Bridge, further downstream from the viewing area in the previous photo. It is composed to make the falls look more wild and natural, as the only obvious modern presence is the tour boat in the left center of the photo. This boat is the famous Maid of the Mist.

The description states:

A breathtaking sight of Mother Nature’s great masterpiece. Niagara Falls, as seen from man’s great accomplishment, Rainbow Bridge, a beautiful combination of Power and Art.
–The bridge was built beginning in 1939 and completed in 1941 as a replacement for the older Honeymoon Bridge which collapsed from an ice jam on the river.
This card was used and is dated 1956.

This image shows both of the large cascades that make up the Niagara Falls complex, as seen from the Canadian side of the border.

The description states:

Seen from the Canadian side of Niagara
–The postcard was used and is dated 1952, which is consistent with the models of cars seen parked in the photo. The link above has another photo of this same area as it now exists, and the viewing area is still present, but much more fully developed.

This image begins a series of cards featuring the world famous Niagara Falls, long a site for honeymooners and other vacationeers.

Johnson Press, Stamford Centre, Ontario

This is one of the old style cards that did not have any description listed on the back, just printed guide marks for postage, address and message. The signs visible on the front of the main office indicate that this was also something of a general store.
The address no longer exists, since the numbers for the street were changed sometime in the past, but the current business at this same location is still a tourist hotel.
The vehicles visible in the photo indicate that this image is from the 1940s.

The Lake Superior Route, Ontario, Canada

This folio features a number of views along the scenic Highway 17 in Canada, which follows the Canadian shoreline of Lake Superior for nearly the entire distance. It is one major section of the Trans-Canada Highway, which runs from coast to coast in Canada. The map included also shows the US highways present along the southern shore.

The folio has no additional description beyond the map and the legends on the photos. Unlike most other photo collections, this one shows two industrial scenes as well as the more typical natural settings.
The cars in a few of the pictures indicate these photos date from the 1960s.

Washing Day, Ste. Agnes, Quebec, Canada

This postcard painting depicts washer women in the village of Saint Agnes, Quebec, now a part of Dundee.

The description on the back states:
WASHING DAY.
On top of the mountain, back of Murray Bay, stands a pretty village called Ste-Agnes. As described in this scene ,one can see that the rustic life of the peasants still survives. Old traditions are kept and cherished.
It is believed this series of cards dates from the 1950s.

The Mobile Butcher, Quebec, Canada

This card depicts a scene with a butcher’s card selling meats as it passes through the town. The location is stated as Pointe au Pic, which has been merged into the larger municipality of La Malbaie as of 1999.

Atelier Morency 5645 Woodbury Ave, Montreal

There are two descriptions on the back of the card, one in French and one in English. The French title is Le Boucher Ambulant, which is incorrectly translated into English as The Country Butcher instead of The Mobile Butcher. The whole English description states:
THE COUNTRY BUTCHER.
As we say in French, “Happy peoples have no history.” A few steps from the Manoir Richelieu, at Pointe Au Pic, this picture characterizes the simple philosophies of life.
There is no indication of the age of this postcard, but it is believed to be from the 1950s.

The first of three cards with painted images of French Canadian scenes.

Atelier Morency 5645 Woodbury Ave, Montreal

The card represented has no description on the back other than the location. However, later cards with this image do, and the description for the identical card states:
SOUS LE FORT STREET, QUEBEC – This street like many others is characteristic of old civilization. Quebec can claim more than three and a quarter centuries of existence.
— It is not possible from the information on the card to determine its age. It is believed to be from the 1950s.

This folio presents images of the area around Kakabeka Falls, Ontario, which is just west of Thunder Bay, Ontario and a bit north of the eastern tip of Minnesota as it runs along Lake Superior.
