Point Lobos, CA

This is one of many spectacular views from Point Lobos State Reserve, known as the jewel of the California State Park system.

A Curt Teich Signature Series Photographed by Dick Cunningham

There is no description on the back of this card. The photo, while quite impressive in quality, does not begin to show the incredible color of the water around the reserve, which can range from sky blue to emerald green depending on the depth and underlying seafloor.
The picture appears to date from the 1970s.

Cypress Point, Pebble Beach, CA

An iconic photo. Perhaps the most photographed tree in the world: Lone Cypress, the trademark of the Pebble Beach Corporation and located on 17 Mile Drive on the Monterey Peninsula.

A Curt Teich Signature Series Photographed by Allan Bruce Zee

There is no description on the back of this card. The view is a common one from a vantage point where there is tourist parking. Although it is called Lone Cypress, there is clearly a second tree on the same rocky point that sprouted some years ago, and will likely someday outgrow the present tree. The tree is not in the best condition, and is held in place by cables to prevent it toppling into the surf below.
It appears to date from the 1970’s.

Emmons Prayer Room, Upper Room Chapel, Nashville, TN

This is a view of the altar in the Emmons Prayer Room, part of the Upper Room Chapel.

Dist. by Southern Postcard Co., Box 306, Goodlettsville, Tenn.

There is no description on the back of the postcard.  The Upper Room is a daily devotional publication distributed by the United Methodist Church to its congregations, which expanded into an international, multi-lingual ministry. It celebrated 75 years of publication in 2010 and is available electronically or by subscription to the print edition.
The image dates from the 1970s.

Last Supper Replica, Upper Room Chapel, Nashville, TN

This is a polychrome wood relief of the Da Vinci fresco called The Last Supper. It is in the Upper Room Chapel.

Dist. by Southern Postcard Co., Box 306, Goodlettsville, Tenn.

The description on the back states:
The great polychrome woodcarving of Leonardo’s Last Supper, in the Upper Room Chapel, 1908 Grand Avenue, Nashville, Tennessee, 37203.
The postcard was used and has the postmark of July 28, 1977.

Parthenon, Nashville, TN

This is a photo of the faithful version of the Greek Parthenon in Athens, Greece. It originally was a temple to the goddess Athena Parthenos, or Athena in her manifestation as the protector of the city.

Dist. by Southern Postcard Co., Box 306, Goodlettsville, Tenn.

The card was trimmed top and bottom but doesn’t lose any of the main subject. The description states:
Nashville, Tennessee
Nashville’s Parthenon in Centennial Park is the only full sized replica of the world famous Parthenon of the Acropolis in Athens, Greece. This masterpiece of early Greek Architecture is 228′ in length, 101′ wide and 65′ high.
–While this card was not used, it is one of a few bought at the same time, one of which was mailed and postmarked, indicating this image is from the 1970s.

The Rigel Fortress

A fantasy landscape this time, from the original Star Trek series. This image is from the first pilot, which was never shown in its original form, but instead was spliced into a two-part episode mixed with characters and actors from the main series.

Paramount Pictures Corporation

The description on the back of the card states:
STAR TREK
The landscape of planet Rigel 7, a world where Captain Christopher Pike (first captain aboard the Enterprise) experienced an incredible adventure.
(From the episode “The Menagerie”)
–The original pilot was titled “The Cage“. The postcard was produced in the 1970’s, but the artwork was created for the TV show in the mid-1960’s. The numbers on the moon are from Post office processing stamps.

The Little Match Girl

An unusual subject for a  postcard: a scene from the Andersen’s fairy tale The Little Match Girl. This is a lenticular postcard, which changes the image slightly when the view is altered from right to left, giving a slight sense of 3-D. As a result, the scan appears a bit blurry.

Printing Studio AG, 3D-Color Dept., Zurich

The description is very short: PK-94 Matches Girl
It deviates from the traditional depiction since the girl in the story is very poorly clothed with no scarf, and finds refuge in a corner where two buildings join unevenly. It does capture the visions of Christmas and the falling star omen of a soul going to Heaven.
This card was mailed, and has a postmark of 2 January 1978.

Cypress Gardens, Florida

Below, a pastoral scene of the famous Cypress Gardens that was. While this area and view of the Gardens is still accessible, the original venue closed and was reopened as Legoland Florida.

Curteich Color 3-D Natural Color Reproduction

The description says:
Beautiful waterways & flowered paths invite the tourists to enjoy their visit to Florida’s Cypress Gardens.
The botanical gardens depicted in this photo still exist mostly unchanged, but the rest of the park has been reconstructed as a more common amusement park with rides.
This card was used, and has a strip of transparent tape in the sky portion of the center of the card. I was unwilling to remove it as doing so may have damaged the card. It was postmarked October 1979.

US Capitol Building, Washington DC

An early evening photo of the Capitol Building with a full moon in the background, looking towards the Mall and the Washington Monument in the left background.

L.B. Prince Co., Fairfax, Virginia

The description states: A night view of the U.S. Capitol as seen from the east side with the city of Washington D.C. in the background.
There are a few holes in this postcard, most notably above the Capitol statue and at the middle bottom of the card from when it was displayed on a cork board. The card was mailed and has a date of 24 August 1980.

Soco Gap, North Carolina

This is an aerial photo of the Soco Gap and it’s current occupation by the Blue Ridge Parkway and US Highway 19. The original picture was apparently taken in early autumn by the appearance of a bit of color change among the trees.

Aerial Photography Services, 2300 Dunavant St., Charlotte N.C. 28203

The description states:
Scenic Soco Gap, at the intersection of the Blue Ridge Parkway and U.S. 19, is the marked boundary of the Qualla Reservation of the Cherokee Indians and was the gateway to the last Cherokee stronghold in Western North Carolina.
The postcard is used, but was mis-cancelled and the postmark is not present. The 15 cent coil stamp would indicate the card was mailed shortly after the stamp’s issue date of 1978, with the photo predating it.
