This image captures a very interesting cultural moment in the 1960s. The furniture, the table settings, the presence of ashtrays on every table. People dressed well, men in dress shirts and women in dresses. In the right background, an elderly woman plays the organ live for the patrons.

— One could easily go to coffee shops in many places in the country and see very similar settings during this time.

Moving past the parking lot and the iconic Little America Sign, we now look back towards the fuel pumps and service station area behind the sign, and the Dining Room. The location is named partly in honor of the camp of the same name established at the South Pole by Richard Byrd in 1929.

— The iconic sign at the right has two dark spots on it, these appear to be lights or blinkers, and are not stains or other marks on the card. The penguin was used on many billboards leading to the center, but all the penguin themed billboards have been removed.
This card dates from the 1960s.

This images proceeds past the gas station pumps, just barely visible on the extreme right, and moves into the parking lot for the food service buildings and the motel.

This image is from almost the same spot as the previous post, but elevated to give a slightly longer field of view. More obvious is the service station building, topped by the Sinclair gasoline sign.

— Robert Holding, the founder of Little America, would come to own Sinclair Oil in 1976, and has kept the brand alive to the current day. Holding himself died in 2013.
This card also dates from the 1960s.

We begin a week with images of the famous tourist spot called Little America. Originally it was a remote hotel intended for long distance travelers, but as time passed it prospered from its location on a major highway. This initial image shows a portion of the huge gasoline refueling station, touted as the world’s largest.
