The description states:
MONUMENT OF DOUGLASS HOUGHTON
MICHIGANS FIRST STATE GEOLOGIST
Drowned off shore at Lake Superior, Oct. 13, 1845. Monument location on Lake Shore Scenic Drive M26 at Eagle River, Michigan.
–Houghton was killed in bad weather during a geological survey of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan when his small boat capsized.
This card likely dates from the 1950s.
